without Frank Miller, things like essentially every single movie adaptation universe/series ever of Batman to exist, The DCAU Animated series of Batman and Superman both would have never happened

and most of those stories Miller did with the grimmest Batman, like with The Dark Knight Returns, they show exactly why being a grim and asocial Batman isn’t gonna work out in the long term, most vividly illustrated with the confrontation with the “reformed” Harvey Dent/Two Face

in reality, Harvey Dent’s face was completely fixed by plastic surgery and he received psychiatric treatment from a guy who’s treated by the story itself as a total quack, but has in universe respect

….but it only succeeded in getting rid of Harvey Dent’s “good” side, and he’s still in a deep delusion where he sees both sides as horribly scarred in the mirror, and thinks that Bruce Wayne, all the doctors, orderlies, nurses, and people he talks to are playing an elaborate joke on him

and when Batman has his final confrontation with him, he tearfully asks Batman to tell the truth and tell him what he “really” sees

Batman looks down, and sadly narrates
